Commissions - the process

I love to hear your ideas for a commissioned painting; they stretch the fibres of my mind and fingers, flexes my style and imagination and is truly a one-off piece of art. Communication for a commission is essential, so be prepared for questions on what your ideal piece is. I like to know if there are certain pieces you are drawn to, a feeling you need from the piece and the nitty-gritty; sizes and budget. Some commissions have left me with the specific dimensions but freedom on the painting and others have asked for a specific scene; I do love the challenges and process in both these requests. Additionally, some collectors have requested updates of the piece, whereas others would love the surprise, so please let me know which you prefer.

Whilst I am flexible with my commissions, please bear in mind that just like you cannot touch the same piece of water twice, I cannot re-create the same piece. Also, if I am honest, my preferred approach to a commission is to work to the deadline dictated by the painting rather than a date. However, that being said, I can and will work to a reasonable deadline if needed. Depending on the size, a piece can take between 4-6 weeks to create and then possibly up to 4 weeks for framing, so do allow for this. These timings are just a guide; it really does depend on the piece you are after and something we can better judge when you get in touch.”

an extra special piece

“If you’re after that ‘extra special with the cherry on the top', another type of commission I offer is the experiential one. It’s where we book a date and time to visit your savoured place, talk about the ocean and piece together what you love in the scene. If you love to be in the water for a play (surf, snorkel, paddle), I will join you; my mind would be taking mental snapshots of the scene, the ocean, the colours. If you prefer dry feet, I would go alone and see what adventure awaits. We would piece together the elements we loved, or that inspired us, and the painting would come from this. The additional fee for this covers my time and travel to your spot and then the commissioning piece's price. I would love to hear from you as I love to visit new beaches and hear what you love about the ocean!”
